Crisis in Ukraine, return of inflation, rising interest rates… what will be the consequences for acquisitions and disposals? Franck Laborey, partner at Brugmann Conseil, explains on BFM TV what the challenges facing the sector are today.
After the 2020 crisis, the euphoria of 2021 brought back exceptional activity. We had not seen such a level since 2006! It can be explained by several factors. First, companies that were not affected by Covid kept the same momentum as in 2020. As for the others, several transactions blocked during the health crisis were able to move forward. These companies then wanted to catch up!
For 2022, even though concerns were already emerging at the end of December about supply difficulties, the return of inflation and rising interest rates, the year seemed to be off to a rather good start. Since the invasion of Ukraine, however, the situation has kept changing. The uncertainty surrounding the international context, in particular the downward revision of growth forecasts, should push the mergers and acquisitions market to adjust: longer transaction timelines, a clear distinction between heavily impacted sectors and those little or not impacted, and average prices trending downward.
What does this mean for the coming months, and what support do we offer? The full interview with Franck Laborey is available here:
